About This Event

In October 1991, as Croatia endured the escalating violence of war, Bedem Ljubavi – Mothers for Peace held a solemn candlelight vigil at Queen’s Park in Toronto. The gathering united Croatian-Canadian families, clergy, and youth in prayer and song, standing in solidarity with mothers across Croatia who were pleading for peace.

Dressed in traditional national costumes, young volunteers performed Croatian spiritual hymns accompanied by tamburica music. The evening blended prayer, poetry, and Scripture readings, reflecting both the anguish and steadfast hope of the Croatian people.

The vigil was one of many held worldwide that week, part of a global call by Mothers for Peace for compassion, awareness, and an end to suffering in the homeland.
